7. XMM-Newton Mission News - Lynne Valencic and Lynn Cominsky
Successful submissions from the Tenth Call for Proposals for XMM-Newton were
announced in December 2010, and observations will begin in May. The Eleventh Call
for Proposals will open August 23, and the final date to submit proposals will be
October 7.
SAS has been implemented in Hera and a Userʼs Guide has been written. Users
interested in processing their XMM-Newton data over the internet are encouraged to try
Hera and provide feedback to the GOF. More information about Hera can be found at
http://heasarc.nasa.gov/docs/xmm/xmmhp_analysis.html
For those wishing to become more familiar with methods of XMM-Newton data
reduction and analysis, the XMM-Newton Science Operations Centre (SOC) is hosting
the 11th SAS Workshop on June 6-10 in Madrid. More information can be found here:
http://xmm.esac.esa.int/external/xmm_data_analysis/sas_workshops/sas_ws11_files/
The SOC is also hosting a conference on the X-ray Universe on June 27-30 in Berlin.
The conference is intended to provide a general overview of research in high energy
astrophysics, allowing attendees to showcase their discoveries and expectations from
current and future X-ray missions. More information can be found online at
