Awards

HEAD is responsible for awarding a number of prizes.  The Rossi Prize, named after Bruno Rossi is awarded annually for a significant contribution to High Energy Astrophysics, with particular emphasis on recent, original work.

HEAD awards a distinguished career prize  to recognize an individual high-energy astrophysicist who has made outstanding contributions to the field of high energy astrophysics throughout their career

HEAD awards a mid-career prize at the time of each HEAD division meeting (every 12-24 months) to recognize a significant advance or accomplishment (observational or theoretical) in High Energy Astrophysics by an individual astrophysicist within fifteen years of receiving their PhD.

HEAD awards an early-career prize  for a significant advance or accomplishment (observational or theoretical) in High Energy Astrophysics by an individual astrophysicist within 10 years of receiving their PhD.

HEAD awards a dissertation prize at the time of each HEAD division meeting (every 12-24 months) to recognize an outstanding new PhD dissertation in high energy astrophysics.

HEAD awards an innovation prize at the time of each HEAD division meeting (every 12-24 months) to recognize development of foundational, innovative and/or revolutionary instrumentation or software tools that have led to groundbreaking results in high energy astrophysics. 

HEAD also awards the David N. Schramm Award for High Energy Astrophysics Journalism, named after David Schramm, every 18 months to recognize and stimulate distinguished writing on topics in high energy astrophysics in order to improve the general public’s understanding and appreciation of this exciting field of research.
